ソフィーの選択

仕事が忙しかったのもあるんだけど、しばらく体調を悪くしていて毎週お伝えすることが出来ていなかった。やっと落ち着いてきたので、また毎週定期的に更新していきたいと思う。

今週は、最近WOWOWで観た『ソフィーの選択』。この映画はすごく有名で、名前はもちろん知っていたんだけど、古い映画で世代が違うこともあり観ていなかった。しかしWOWOWでたまたま目にしたのをきっかけに、最後まで観ることが出来た。

『ソフィー～』は、メリル･ストリープがアカデミー主演女優賞を獲得したことでも有名な映画だけど、ナチのホロコーストを題材に描いたシリアスで悲しいお話だ。第二次世界大戦中のドイツがユダヤ人などに対して、女子供を問わずに組織的に行った大量虐殺は、本当に凄まじいもので、あり得ないこと。絶対に許せない行為だ。

本作は、そんな当時の悲惨な背景を舞台に、主演のメリル･ストリープによるさまざまな"ソフィーの選択"が描かれている。


SUMMERY

Sophie's Choice is a 1982 American drama film directed by Alan J. Pakula, who adapted the novel of the same name by William Styron. Meryl Streep stars as Sophie, a Polish immigrant who shares a boarding house in Brooklyn with her tempestuous lover (Kevin Kline) and a young writer (Peter MacNicol).

Streep's performance was very favorably received, and it won her the Academy Award for Best Actress. The film was nominated for Best Cinematography (Néstor Almendros), Costume Design (Albert Wolsky), Best Music (Marvin Hamlisch), and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium (Alan J. Pakula).

British company ITC Entertainment produced the film, and Lew Grade was influential in bringing the novel to the big screen.
