At the end of the film, the family ends up safe in Caracas, Venezuela. Back in the United States, a detective who had attempted to catch Brennan returns to the scene of the crime although it had been some years since the crime occurred.

Using his forensic skills, he manages to put together what really happened. It turns out that the killer of Lara's boss was really just a mugger—as she claimed in open court—and a series of coincidences led to Lara's conviction. He remembers Lara saying a button popped off as she passed the mugger, and notices that it is raining just as it had been the night of the murder.

John contemplates several ideas that do not pan out and is defeated more than once, but he latches onto a solid plan and the necessary paperwork after some painful efforts. He robs a drug lord and sets his meth lab on fire before fleeing the scene.

He then falsifies and plants blood work results indicating that his wife is in a state of hyperkalaemia, so she is transferred to the hospital. He follows the ambulance and helps her escape although she is doubtful and reluctant, motivated only by the idea of her son being raised without either parent.

Lara Brennan (Elizabeth Banks) is convicted of murdering her boss after an altercation at work and after a trial is sentenced to life in prison. Following the failure of her appeal, Lara's husband John Brennan (Russell Crowe), a professor at a community college, becomes obsessed with the idea of breaking her out of jail, while their son Luke ceases to acknowledge her during their prison visits.

John consults Damon Pennington (Liam Neeson), a former convict who successfully escaped from prison seven times. Damon advises John to study the prison where his wife is, saying "every prison has a key". Damon also warns him that the initial escape from the prison will be easy compared with avoiding capture after the escape.

先週の土曜日、少し時間が持てたのでＷＯＷＯＷでとり溜めた映画を観ることにした。たくさんありすぎてどれにしようか迷ってしまうんだけど、なんとなく『スリーデイズ』を観ることにした。

『スリーデイズ』は、ラッセル・クロウ主演のスリル・サスペンスもので、監督は『クラッシュ』でアカデミー作品賞を獲得したポール・ハギス。ダニエル・クレイグの新しい００７シリーズでは脚本を手がけていたりする。

この『スリーデイズ』、かなり面白かった。ストーリーは、ある日突然殺人犯として投獄された妻を救うべく善良な夫が脱獄計画を企て・・・といったお話だ。もともとはフランス映画で『ラスト3デイズ～すべて彼女のために～』のリメイクであるけど、ただのリメイクで終わらない良質な作品だよ。この映画はおすすめ。

Inside the structure, a snake-like creature kills Millburn, and sprays a corrosive fluid that melts Fifield's helmet. Fifield falls face-first into a puddle of dark liquid. When the crew return, they find Millburn's corpse. David separately discovers a control room containing a surviving Engineer in stasis, and a star map highlighting Earth. Meanwhile, Holloway sickens rapidly. He is rushed back to Prometheus, but Vickers refuses to let him aboard, and at his urging, burns him to death with a flamethrower.

Later, a medical scan reveals that Shaw, despite being sterile, is pregnant. Fearing the worst, she uses an automated surgery table to extract a squid-like creature from her abdomen. Shaw then discovers that Weyland has been in stasis aboard Prometheus. He explains that he wants to ask the Engineers to prevent his death from old age.As Weyland prepares to leave for the structure, Vickers addresses him as "Father".

As a hovering spacecraft departs an Earth-like world, a humanoid alien drinks a dark bubbling liquid, then starts to disintegrate. The alien's remains cascade into a waterfall. His DNA triggers a biogenetic reaction.

In 2089, archaeologists Elizabeth Shaw and Charlie Holloway discover a star map in Scotland that matches others from several unconnected ancient cultures.

They interpret this as an invitation from humanity's forerunners, the "Engineers". Peter Weyland, the elderly CEO of Weyland Corporation, funds an expedition to follow the map to the distant moon LV-223 aboard the scientific vessel Prometheus.

According to Scott, although the film shares "strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak", and takes place in the same universe, Prometheus explores its own mythology and ideas.

Prometheus entered production in April 2010, with extensive design phases during which the technology and creatures that the film required were developed.

Principal photography began in March 2011, with an estimated US$120–130 million budget. The project was shot using 3D cameras throughout, almost entirely on practical sets, and on location in England, Iceland, Spain, and Scotland.

今週の映画ＤＥ英語は、エイリアンシリーズの前日譚ともされたプロメテウス。監督は、エイリアン（1979）のリドリー・スコット。出演は、ノオミ・ラパス、マイケル・ファスベンダー、ガイ・ピアーズ、シャーリーズ・セロンなど。

先日、ＤＶＤでこの作品を観たんだけど、なかなか面白かった。でも内容的にはわかりやすいものではなかったんじゃないかな。ちょっと難しい。シャーリーズ・セロンが主演かと思いきや、主演はノオミ・ラパス。ノオミ・ラパスって誰？って思って調べてみたら、2011年にデヴィッド・フィンチャーのハリウッド化で話題になった『ドラゴンタトゥーの女』の元祖でスウェーデン版、『ミレニアム ドラゴン・タトゥーの女』、『ミレニアム2 火と戯れる女』、『ミレニアム3 眠れる女と狂卓の騎士』のミレニアムシリーズでヒロインのリスベット役を演じた女優さんだった。

As they go out to hunt food, they find "Foxface", the District 5 girl, dead from eating Nightlock berries that she stole from Peeta, neither being aware they are extremely poisonous. Without warning, Crane darkens the arena and unleashes a pack of hound-like creatures to speed things up.

Katniss and Peeta flee to the roof of the Cornucopia, where they are attacked by Cato. Katniss wounds Cato with an arrow and Peeta hurls him to the creatures below.

Katniss shoots Cato to spare him a prolonged death (in the novel, he is described as wearing a powerful vest that protects him from any fatal wound, though this is not clearly stated in the film).

The televised Games begin with half of the tributes killed in the first few minutes. Katniss barely survives ignoring Haymitch's advice to run away from the tempting supplies of food and weapons strewn in front of a structure called the Cornucopia. Peeta forms an uneasy alliance with the four Careers. They find Katniss and corner her up a tree. Rue, the young girl from District 11, is hiding in a nearby tree and draws her attention to a deadly tracker jacker nest, a highly poisonous creature.

Though stung multiple time, Katniss drops the nest onto her sleeping besiegers. They scatter, but Glimmer, the girl from District 1, is stung to death. Katniss, disoriented by the hallucination causing venom, is told to run away by Peeta. She eventually collapses. She wakes up to find that Rue has taken care of her for two days, cleaning her wounds and protecting her despite her young age.

The post-apocalyptic nation of Panem consists of a wealthy Capitol and twelve poorer districts. As punishment for a past rebellion, each district must provide a boy and a girl ("tributes") between the ages of 12 and 18 selected by lottery (the "Reaping") for the annual Hunger Games. The tributes must fight to the death in an arena, with the sole survivor rewarded with fame and wealth. This year's arena is a vast wilderness area.

In District 12, 12-year-old Primrose Everdeen is chosen in her first Reaping. Katniss, her older sister, volunteers to take her place. Peeta Mellark, a baker's son who once gave Katniss bread despite the abuse he would receive for it when her family was starving, is the other district tribute.

映画DE英語、今週は、先日の第８５回アカデミー賞主演女優賞を獲得した若手女優No.１、ジェニファー・ローレンスのヒット作『ハンガー・ゲーム』をお送りしよう。

このハンガーゲーム、少年少女が殺し合いをするという、うーん、そんな非常識で人間の悪の部分を呼び起こし観客を惹きつけるようなテーマの映画は納得いかなかったんだけど、アメリカですごくヒットして、感動作『ウィンターズ・ボーン』でアカデミー主演女優賞にノミネートされたジェニファー・ローレンスが主演だということで、観るだけ観てみることにした。

実際に観てみると、少年少女の殺し合いのシーンはあるものの、残虐に描かれたりはしておらず、観るに耐えない常識を疑うようなシーンもない。 ジェニファー・ローレンスが人を殺めるシーンもあるが正当防衛によるものだったりする。

あなたが寝てる間に…

今週は、サンドラ・ブロック主演のラブ・ロマンス『あなたが寝てる閒に...』をお送りした。片思いの彼が記憶喪失になって、ひょんなことから彼のフィアンセと間違われ、彼が記憶喪失の閒に彼の弟と恋仲になってしまうという。なんともおかしくて、なんとも素敵なお話だ。

シンプルで軽快なラブストーリーだけに、さほど難しい英単語は今回出てこなかったけど、片思いの彼がアクシデントで記憶喪失になることから、 coma（昏睡状態）、amnesia（記憶喪失）などの難易度の高い英単語が登場した。

サンドラ演じるLucyが駅の発券係の仕事をしていたことからは、 transit（通行）やtoken（代用貨幣・トークン）、commuter（通勤者）といった単語が登場した。collectorが「収集」という意味だけでなく「集金」という意味でも使われることもわかった。
