ブッシュ
今週は、ジョージ・W・ブッシュの半生を描いたオリバー・ストーン監督作の『ブッシュ』をお送りしよう。

『ブッシュ』というタイトルになっているが、原題は『W.』。この辺がアメリカらしくてセンスがあるんだけど、"W."では日本人には伝わらないので直接的に"ブッシュ"となっている。日本人が英語をいつまでも理解出来ないのがこういったところでわかるよね。感覚から変えないと日本人は英語をいつまでも理解出来ないと思うよ。それほど日本語と英語は違う。

先週は、マイケル・ムーア監督の『ボーリング・フォー・コロンバイン』を通じてアメリカの銃社会や歴史的背景について学んだ。その続きというわけではないんだけど、ジョージ・W・ブッシュの姿を通じても、アメリカという国の背景を学ぶことが出来ると思う。

本作は、オリバー・ストーン監督らしい骨太な作りになっていて、ジョージ・W・ブッシュの政策やアメリカに及ぼした影響を批判するものではなく、ジョージ・W・ブッシュの二世としての苦しみなどがつづられた実話のヒューマンドラマになっている。ジョージ・W・ブッシュこそ"アメリカ"なのかもしれない。

W. is a 2008 American biographical film based on the life and presidency of George W. Bush. It was produced and directed by Oliver Stone, written by Stanley Weiser, and stars Josh Brolin as Bush, with a supporting cast that includes Ellen Burstyn, Elizabeth Banks, James Cromwell, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Scott Glenn, and Richard Dreyfuss. Filming began on May 12, 2008, in Louisiana and the film was released on October 17.

4George W. Bush

George Walker Bush (born July 6, 1946) is an American politician and businessman who was the 43rd President of the United States of America from 2001 to 2009 and the 46th Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000. The eldest son of Barbara and George H. W. Bush, he was born in New Haven, Connecticut. After graduating from Yale University in 1968 and Harvard Business School in 1975, Bush worked in oil businesses. He married Laura Welch in 1977 and ran unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives shortly thereafter.

William Oliver Stone (born September 15, 1946) is an American film director, screenwriter, producer and veteran.
